I haven't posted anything for awhile because we have been busy with the move to Calgary and we haven't really done much exciting but here's a summary of the last 6 or so weeks.
We came to Calgary the last weekend in November to find a house and was able to find one that we liked. It's a little smaller than the house in Edmonton (which was a little smaller than our Shawnee house) but we've been able to make it work. The house had several things we were excited about - its right beside a park, it has a new kitchen with new appliances (really nice after fighting old appliances in Edmonton for a year), two playhouses for Ethan (one in the basement under the stairs and one in the backyard), and a covered deck for year round grilling. We were able to coordinate the trip with my first doctor's appointment with the doctor I'm using here for my OB care.
Our landlords were building a new house and moving before Christmas so we were able to take possession of the house the weekend before Christmas. We made another trip down that weekend with some of the things that we knew the movers wouldn't move like liquids. We were able to coordinate the trip with another monthly doctor appointment. Although the weather on the drive down wasn't the greatest, luckily the trip back to Edmonton went better and we were able to spend Christmas there. We were able to enjoy wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas dinners with some of the people we had meet during our year in Edmonton.
Our after Christmas craziness definitely was a repeat of last year with the only exception being that we had one extra day after Christmas before the movers showed up. Ethan and I just tried to stay out of the house on packing day and loading day and we officially left Edmonton on December 30th. Once again, the weather didn't cooperate very well for our drive to Calgary but we made it safely. Although Wade was glad to let Ethan and I have the car with winter tires and 4 wheel drive, he did admit that he had no desire to make the drive again in his car that doesn't have either.
Our wait for the truck wasn't as long this time but longer than we had hoped for since it was a short move. Our belongings finally arrived on January 3rd. Unpacking didn't go as quickly here for several different reasons. The smaller house actually made it a little harder for me to unpack and organize. We also added organizers to all the closets so I had to wait for Wade to finish that before unpacking closets. We also did a good amount of purging so that took time also. January was also a pretty unhealthy month for us - Wade got hit with a stomach bug hours after the moving truck left, I fought a cold for almost two weeks and the worst was Ethan breaking out in hives everywhere for a week and having it move to his joints also. The doctor at the walk in clinic thought it might have been the Benedryl affecting his joints but from what we read online it could have also just been the hives. Regardless of the reason it was a miserable few days of him complaining that it hurt to move or be moved and we were so happy to see him up and moving around again. We managed to get most of the stuff unpacked before Wade's parents came to visit at the end of January. We are currently working on the nursery and the garage and then will be done except for the random boxes that we have thrown in the storage room.
I've been feeling good and the pregnancy has been going well. We are down to 6 weeks so I'm just trying to get as much crossed off my to do list as I can. We've learned our way around Calgary a little bit but haven't really gotten to explore it much. I managed to find Ethan a preschool with an opening for the remainder of the year and it's only about a 10 minute drive. I enrolled him in one closer to home for next year so he will have to adjust to another new school but I'm sure he'll do fine. We also have him in swimming lessons by himself for the first time. He's still a little unsure about the whole thing but I'm hoping he'll get better with time. Wade has quickly fell into his new routine. His drive is a little longer but he misses most the morning traffic by going in early.
